Modeling

Advanced computer modeling plays an increasingly important role in the analysis of complex building systems. It provides an unmatched capability to optimize the indoor environment by risk-free examination of different design options. Modeling also presents a unique opportunity to investigate historic environmental or disaster events. Without recorded data, modeling is often the only way to analyze an event in a meaningful way.

Computer modeling is usually an integral part of our Comprehensive Services (design, review, compliance, and claim). However, we also offer a series of stand-alone Modeling Services to aid clients in understanding a particular area of their interest. We provide services/solutions for controlling a number of key environmental parameters in any built environment.

Our team utilizes a full range of state-of-the-art indoor climate, HVAC, and energy modeling tools that are both accurate and cost effective. Since we also develop building simulation tools, we understand modeling from the ground up. Advanced indoor environmental computer modeling augments engineering experience and professional judgment, resulting in first-class technical analysis and truly optimized solutions. The following is a partial listing of our computer modeling capabilities.

  • Airflow and Velocity
  • Temperature and Humidity
  • Water Condensation
  • Ventilation and Infiltration
  • Ventilation Effectiveness
  • Indoor Air Quality
  • Human Thermal Comfort
  • Pollutant Transport
  • Fire and Smoke
  • Building Energy Use
  • External Airflow

  Highlight: CFD Airflow Modeling

Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) modeling predicts airflow, heat transfer, and pollutant transport in a building based on a detailed description of the structure. By solving the basic differential equations for conservation of mass, momentum, and energy, it generates an accurate three-dimensional representation of the indoor environmental conditions. CFD modeling is a powerful tool for designing and selling customized solutions.

Design Aid. Multiple designs can cost-effectively be analyzed to find the optimal solution. It eliminates the guesswork in designing customized systems.

Design Risk Reduction. Various risks associated with design solutions are reduced; underperforming ventilation systems may be subjected to litigation.

Marketing & Sales Support. Color-coded plots of modeling results help sell a proposed design. Many clients require CFD analysis for critical applications.

Our team has analyzed and designed over-head, under-floor, displacement, and customized air-distribution solutions in mission critical facilities. Furthermore, our experts provided the modeling expertise necessary to develop thermal management standards for telecommunications facilities.

We have the experience, expertise, and resources to provide CFD modeling services to help end users, equipment manufacturers, and consulting engineers to meet their design, risk, and sales goals.
